Random Scene from Early Family Life

I don't know why this popped into my head - well, actually I do, but I can't explain. A running joke between my mother and my stepfather:

She: "I'm going to the store, do you want anything?"

He: "Yeah, bring me back an 18 year-old blonde"

She: "At your age, that's like a dog chasing a truck. He wouldn't know what to do with it if he caught it!"

They really had a great time that way and one of my stepfather's sayings stuck with me:

"Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday."

They were married something like 20 years. One day he woke up and said he wasn't feeling too well. By the time the ambulance arrived he was dead. I remember well the phone call from my brother. You're always left with the regret for not being able to say goodbye.
